Food for Thought
by CHRIS BRADY
Pupils at Springwood Community Primary School in Bradford spent an entire day on 28 September learning all about Ramadan.
The special event was organised to help improve understanding of the Holy Month in a school that looks after children from a variety of cultural and religious backgrounds.
Learning Mentor at the school and local community worker Khalil Hussain told Asian Leader: "The whole school took part from nursery to year 6 and it was all about promoting Ramadan.
"I managed to get plenty of local business involved who provided us with bags of food for the children to take home. What better way to help reinforce the importance of what Muslims do in the month of Ramadan than through the kids bellies?"
Bradford businesses that got involved included Saffron Restaurant, Tyre Trax and Punjab Sweet House. The day started off with an assembly, teaching youngsters about what Ramadan is all about and there was large posters put up highlighting things to remember.
Headteacher Francis Warden, said: "A day like this can only benefit the cultural understanding of all our pupils."
