A 16-year-old karate champion from Preston is continuing his impressive form from last year.
Ferrari Faqiri has already amassed an amazing eleven medals this year from four tournaments both home and abroad.

The year started with Ferrari picking up one gold, two silver and a bronze at the North West of England Karate Championships. He gained two silver and one bronze at the Malta International championships in Malta. Then came two gold medals at the Liverpool championships.

And finally to top it all off Faqiri gained two more medals at the English championships that also gained him a place at the WKA World Kickboxing and Karate championships in Germany later on this year.

He is also due to participate in the Scottish Karate championships later on this month. Faqiri's father, Hashmit said his son deserves the success he is getting at the moment.

He added: " Faqiri works his socks of at the gym. He trains hard, is disciplined and wants to be the best. He has all the ingredients to go all the way and get all the success he wants. It is up to him how much he wants it.

"Some of the tournaments he participates in he is fighting opponents who are a lot bigger and older than him yet he is still bringing success."

It is not only on the karate mats that are bringing success for Ferrari. He was nominated by Asian Leader and short-listed for the Sony Junior sports personality of the year award. He received the Preston Rising star award from Preston City Council and a certificate for outstanding sporting achievement.

He has also been nominated for the Fusion awards for outstanding achievement in sport.
