Ready to Rock
by CHRIS BRADY
Blackpool wrestling star Shak Khan has vowed to perform in his homeland of Pakistan next year and take over a stable of other Asian wrestlers to entertain the crowds.
The 'Blackpool Rock', 33, believes there is a real interest in wrestling back in Pakistan and the Mid-Heavyweight Champion is putting together an events tour that will take place in Azad Kashmir, Mirpur and Islamabad and amongst other venues in the summer of 2007.
In an exclusive interview with Asian Leader, the hardcore wrestler said: "I'm originally from the village of Sochani, so it will be a real honour to put on a show in my country of birth.
"A lot of people don't realise that wrestling is a popular attraction in Pakistan. It' s not like in the WWF, there's obviously a lot more contact in real wrestling, we don't hold back and opponents really hit each other.
Shak, who is also known as Raja Sony Palwan, challenged Olympic Silver medallist boxer Amir Khan to a charity raising fight in an Asian Leader interview back in May and he says he's still keen for a match-up.
"I haven't had a response from Amir Khan's camp yet, but I'm more than up for it. What a fantastic way to raise money for a charity by selling tickets for that.
"I recently returned from a stay in Tenerife after an invite from former World Of Wrestling television star and former champion Marc 'Rollerball' Rocco and he gave me a lot of advice on putting shows together. "
Shak has also been invited to Manchester when the world famous WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) stars will be on show next year, where he will be meeting the likes of Triple H and Vince McMahon.
Shak, who expects to release his official DVD early next year, currently trains at the ECW gym in Blackpool and hopes to find enough Asian wrestlers to take over to Pakistan next year. Shak's next fight is against an as yet unnamed Japanese wrestler in Liverpool next February. He is also looking at the possibility of putting on a street fight type-wrestling match in Rochdale.
