Akhtar was fined 10,000 rupees by the tournament organisers, who say the thirty-one year old refused to wear the logo of communications company Mobilink at the five day event running from 21 to 26 December.
Akhtar, representing Rawalpindi Rams
, was told by match referee Anwar Khan that he should wear the logo, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has an agreement with company. Mobilink were sponsoring all the teams at the competition.
However, the pace star opted to hide the logo on his shirt under a sticker and despite repeated warnings from match officials, continued to frustrate the organisers, saying he had no contract with the PCB, nor was he being paid by the sponsors to wear it.
The organisers therefore decided to fine Ahktar, whose side were eliminated after just two games.
Ahktar lost his contract with the PCB after he failed a doping test back in October, along with international team-mate Mohammad Asif. Both were then banned by a PCB anti-doping tribunal in November, but had the decisions overturned by a PCB Appeals Committee.
The two players still could face a ban however, after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) filed an appeal against the decision to clear them in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
