Yorkshire players Adil Rashid and Ajmal Shahzad were on hand with Club Chief Executive Stewart Regan and presented Mirza Tahir Hussain with the membership at Headingley Carnegie Stadium on 19 December.
Mirza said: "Freedom is a wonderful thing. I certainly look forward to coming here with my family in the summer and watching some superb cricket being played at Headingley."
Mirza, from Headingley in Leeds, was on death row in Pakistan for accidentally killing a taxi driver in self-defence whilst travelling to the village of Bhubar back in December 1988. As an avid fan of Yorkshire County Cricket Club, he managed to follow the fortunes of the club during his time in prison through newspaper and radio reports.
His brother, Amjad Hussain, gave up his job as a scientist to lead the campaign for Mirza's freedom and was helped by a number of organisations that were convinced Mirza's trial had not conformed to international standards of fairness and justice
The tireless campaigning, including interventions from Prince Charles and Prime Minister Tony Blair eventually resulted in Mirza's release and his return to Leeds in November.
Receiving his membership, Mirza said: "I must say I am honoured and delighted to be presented with membership of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
"I gather quite a few changes have taken place around here since the 80s and all for the better. My 16-year-old nephew, Basim, is keen one day to follow in the footsteps of Adil Rashid and Ajmal Shahzad. He also tells me that Headingley has an excellent new cricket centre and better facilities for both players and spectators."
His brother Amjad added: "Keeping in touch with Yorkshire cricket had helped Mirza maintain a strong link with home.
"I was amazed at the enormous lengths he went to in order to follow the club and he is looking forward to watching some great cricket."
The membership will allow Mirza access to all of Yorkshire County Cricket Club's home fixtures at both Headingley Carnegie and Scarborough Cricket Club.
He can now look forward to enjoying the club's 2007 season and the batting prowess of Yorkshire's exciting new Pakistani international signing Younus Khan.
