Waseem's design goes on show at Earl's Court

Budding Huddersfield designer Waseem Mubarik is in the running for a top national award thanks to his innovative piece of work 'The Hangman' – which encourages teenagers to keep their bedrooms tidy.

A former Leeds Metropolitan University Design student, Waseem, 25, came up with the idea as part of his third year project and it is now being displayed Earl's Court, London, until 1 April, as part of the Ideal Home Show.
Waseem told Leader: "The Hangman design promotes tidy habits, giving youngsters a place to hang their clothes and shoes, getting rid of the need for hangers.
"It's made up of PVC tubes, looped round the 'man' and the pipes have fluorescent lightening as well, so it can also be used as a lamp."
The Ideal Home Show offers visitors a glimpse of how their home will look in the future offering expert advice on interior design, but Waseem is quick to point out that his design is more than just practical.
"It's got a biological aspect, the red and blue tubes represent the human bodies arteries and veins, whilst the fluorescent lightening helps to highlight the flow of blood through the body."
Waseem, who graduated last year, was selected by teachers at Leeds Met to have his work put on show at a New Designers Exhibition in London last July and it was here that his six foot tall design caught the eye of representatives from the Ideal Home Show.
Waseem has been working for his family business since leaving University, helping it out in Off-Licenses across the North West, but now hopes to secure a work placement through the success of his idea and build a career in product design.
