A budding moviemaker from Rochdale is to have five of his short films aired on digital television on 23 April.
Zafar Iqbal has produced and directed five short films that will be shown on DM Digital TV, Sky Channel 817 - showcasing an array of local acting talent from Rochdale and Manchester's Asian communities, broadcasted to an audience in 166 countries.

Zafar told Leader: "All the films are in English, although the show itself is presented in Pahari and my cast and crew are mainly made up of people from the South Asian communities in the region."

Zafar, who appears in leading roles in three of the films, added: "My work is all about highlighting Britain South Asian communities and cultural issues.

"My first love is acting, but I've thoroughly enjoyed shooting these short pieces and hope that people enjoy watching them."

The films, which will be screened at 6pm, range from just two to six minutes in length and Zafar, a media and performance degree graduate from the University of Salford, admitted: "You have to get right in there from the start with short films, establish a story-line and go for it.

"My favourite of the five is probably Young Desi, which is the story of a group of young people and what happens to them when they can't find work – I was particularly pleased with how this turned out after editing."

Young Rochdale actress Saba Andleeb also plays the lead in three of the films and Zafar was quick to praise her performances.

"Saba was terrific, she's currently receiving training from the University of Salford and is a great performer."

DM Digital TV is a free to air Manchester based British Asian TV channel.
