The true story of how an Asian women changed things forever

In what is largely anticipated to be this year's most poignant film, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai takes on the role of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, the Asian woman who overturned the British judicial system.
Provoked is the real life struggle of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, who transformed the meaning of "provocation" in the case of physically abused women, winning justice for women subjected to domestic violence, rape and sexual abuse, not only makes captivating viewing, but also highlights a very serious issue for many women who suffer from domestic violence.
Rai is joined by an impressive international star studded cast including Miranda Richardson, Naveen Andrews, Rebecca Pidgeon, Nandita Das and Robbie Coltrane.
Provoked is the true-life depiction of The film, based on Ahluwalia's autobiography Circle of Light by Rahila Gupta.
It follows her lonely struggle in an abusive 10-year marriage, her retaliation through the murder of her violent husband and the efforts of women activists Southall Black Sisters to bring her justice.
The language of the film is in English, with some parts in Punjabi with English subtitles and is a certificate 15.
Provoked is released by Eros International plc and is in cinemas from 6th April 2007.

Shilpa show roles on

The Shilpa Shetty factor seems to be growing and the actresses two ready-for-release films, Apne and Metro, are getting extra publicity because of her.
"I'm so glad these two films are getting extra attention because of me. I'm very happy my next release Metro lookds at contemporary Indian relationships. Out West they're so used to seeing an oddity from the back of the beyond. It's a welcome change," said Shilpa.
When asked to recall her single-most memorable experience, she said: "There have been so many memorable experiences. But the most emotional experience was when I came out of the 'Big Brother' house. They wouldn't let me meet my family until I did my first live interview. That's when I saw my mother for the first time in 25 days. It was a truly overpowering moment."
